Main Street Mercantile Celebrates 12 Years In Business

Fairport’s Main Street Mercantile celebrates 12 years in business this July 4th, 2018.  Opening in July of 2006 at the location of a former antique store called Rainy Day Mercantile, Main Street Mercantile was the dream of then owners Deborah Tessier, Barb Cummings and Maria Erickson.  Being previous vendors at Old Barnworks in Macedon, they had lots of experience and plenty of ambition.  But growing a gift store is no small task, especially with internet shopping coming into full swing.

They began with about 18 vendors who rented space and shared the work each month to offset costs. With its spacious front porch and Main Street location, it didn’t take long for Fairport residents to find and appreciate its hometown charm.  Offering everything from local t-shirts to homemade jams, wreaths, candles, furniture, home décor, garden accessories, collectibles, flags and just about anything else you can imagine. This store has won hearts for its constant, yet ever-changing inventory and unique items to please anyone’s taste.

Over the years, vendors have changed, owners have retired, but what remains constant is the warm, friendly atmosphere and camaraderie among shoppers and vendors alike. Each month, a different vendor is highlighted.  Also, shoppers can join the Mercantile Club and accrue points to earn a coupon toward a future purchase.  Current owners Deborah Tessier, Lesa Kime and Jeff Kime continue to fill the store with unique items that are sure to brighten any day..

Customers can easily find a birthday gift, a wedding gift, a baby gift, a graduation gift, a new home gift, a retirement gift-a gift for just about any occasion. And if you have the need for something to freshen up a door, hang on a wall, brighten a dark spot…well, it can be found here too. Your cat needs a catnip toy?  We’ve got that.  You want a scented candle for your grandmother?  We’ve got that.  Your daughter needs a special hair bow?  Check. Scrubbies for the sink?  Check.  A scarf to accessorize?  Check.   New pictures for the living room?  Check. In fact, it’s hard to find a better place to shop that offers so many choices under one roof.

As the seasons change, so does the inventory.  Memorial Day and the Fourth of July bring plenty of people to sit on the porch for perfect viewing of the local parade.  After the parade, people pop in to pick up last minute patriotic items.  Canal Days offers a plethora of yard art and outdoor décor.  The local Scarecrow Festival brings children to the porch area for games and prizes, while mom and dad sneak in for a few Fall goodies inside.  And Christmas can’t be beat beginning in early November with an Open House up to the 12 Days of Christmas ending on December 24th.

Stop in to browse or say hello or find a treasure or two.
You’re always welcome and truly appreciated.
